President and CEO, James A. Nashman

A graduate of the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mr. Nashman holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance. He began his real estate career with the May Department Store Company in the retail commercial business development unit. In 1985, Nashman joined the Colliers Turley Martin Company where he specialized in site acquisitions for retail, office, apartment and hotel developments.

In 1991, he joined the Michelson Organization, an investment holding firm, where he concentrated on retail, multi-family and hotel acquisitions, dispositions and development. In 1994, Nashman joined Midland Development Group where he became a development partner, focusing on site selection, site approval and build-to-suit opportunities in Colorado and Florida. Having established relationships with such retailers as King Soopers, Fresh Market, Publix, Walgreens, Robb & Stucky and CVS corporations, Nashman successfully completed numerous build-to-suit opportunities.

Nashman formed Pelican Bay Development in 1995 together with Richard A. Lauer.

Richard A. Lauer

Richard served as the Chief Executive Officer of the company until his untimely death November 13, 2005. A graduate of Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska, he held a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from the University of Minnesota. He spent his early career in Hospital Administration. In 1978, he became Senior Vice President at the White Memorial Medical Center, a large teaching hospital in Los Angeles, where his responsibilities included the expansion and remodeling of the medical center. In 1979, he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing and Planning of AHS-West, the hospital’s corporate managing company which had responsibility for the operations of 17 west coast hospitals with over 25,000 employees.

In 1981, Lauer formed a private health care consulting company to focus on construction projects for medical centers, physician’s offices and nursing homes. In 1984, he returned to Minneapolis to join Lauer Homes, Inc. as a partner and owner. Lauer Homes is a leading builder of high-end luxury homes in the Minneapolis metropolitan area.

In 1995, Lauer founded Pelican Bay Development with James A. Nashman. Richard was instrumental in the growth and development of Pelican Bay Development and has left a legacy of enduring value for the firm.
